A private haven

This was certainly the case for Mr Petr, who built his house in the southern suburbs of one of the regional capitals, right next to a wood criss-crossed with paths that are perfect for walks.

Originally, the architect had proposed an outdoor hot tub in the sheltered part of the garden, but after careful consideration, the choice fell on a larger and more versatile swim spa. One of the reasons for this was that Petr had already thought ahead to ensure that his grandchildren would also be able to enjoy it in the future. 

“The swim spa also met our requirements for a functional and unobtrusive cover; we didn’t want any of those unsightly canopies that swimming pools usually have. We have a button to open and close it, so it’s as convenient as can be,” says the owner, explaining why he opted for the Swim Spa XL model combined with the automatic ACS^®thermal cover. USSPA was the obvious choice for him, not least because he also owns a Columba^iN hot tub from the same company, which he uses in the relaxation area of his home.

The new swim spa is fully integrated into the wooden decking, which, at the top of the sloping plot, adjoins a second building in the garden. This is a low-energy modular timber structure by Freedomky, which the owner uses as a utility and storage building. The building also provides the necessary privacy in the garden.

For Petr, it was important to combine the building, the terrace, the all-year-round pool and the relaxation area with seating in such a way as to create a pleasant, sheltered space where the materials and functions complemented one another. The spot in the northern part of the plot was perfect for the swim spa. “It’s a part of the garden that’s hidden from view from the street and meets our privacy requirements,” says Petr.

His vision was brought to life by the renowned landscape architect Tomáš Jiránek, who conceived the project as a wellness garden. This year marked the second season in which the whole family has been using the swim spa, so the owner is now able to assess it with the benefit of hindsight. Petr particularly appreciates the fact that the swim spa can be used all year round, meaning everyone can bathe or swim not only in summer but also in winter. “We’ve really made the most of it on hot days. But the same goes, for example, for the Christmas holidays,” emphasises Petr, who says there’s practically not a single week when nobody uses the swim spa. He particularly praises how easy it is to operate – after all, that was one of the requirements they had for the swim spa.

Looking ahead, he is considering fitting the neighbouring freestanding cabin with solar panels, which would help to reduce energy consumption even further. In a way, this would also enhance the sense of independence and complete privacy that Petr and his whole family enjoy in the relaxation area of their garden.
