A Guide to Choosing a Swim Spa

We’d be happy to advise you in person at our showrooms, or please contact us:

01

Should I get a swimming pool or a hot tub?

Start with the most important question – who will be using the spa? Are you an active family with young children, a couple looking for some peace and quiet, or a single person wanting to work on their fitness? This will determine the type of spa that suits you best.

All-year-round swim spa

Active users will appreciate a year-round swim spa with a counter-current system, which offers space for swimming training, your little ones’ first attempts at swimming, as well as quality family time or a drink for two amidst the swirling bubbles on the swim spa steps fitted with hydromassage jets.

Hot tub

If you’re looking for peaceful relaxation, rejuvenation, pain relief or support for the treatment of health issues, a hot tub with ingeniously designed massage systems is the ideal choice.

A combination of a hot tub and a year-round swim spa

Do you want to work on your fitness whilst relaxing? Treat yourself to both with this unique combination of a hot tub and an all-year-round swim spa, which complement each other perfectly.

USSPA Tip

USSPA offers a unique combination of a year-round swim spa and a CombiiN or LoungeiN hot tub. Both units complement each other perfectly, yet they also function independently, so you can enjoy pleasantly warm water for swimming in the swim spa whilst simultaneously enjoying a higher, optimal temperature for an effective hydrotherapeutic massage and muscle relaxation in the hot tub.

02

Where should I install a year-round swim spa?

The location of a swim spa is just as important as choosing the right one. The most common options are a garden, a terrace or a spacious balcony. However, a swim spa can also be installed indoors. Each option has its advantages – outdoors, you can enjoy the fresh air and views of the countryside, greenery or your own garden, whilst indoors you benefit from the comfort of privacy and stable conditions. When planning the location of your swim spa, pay attention to practical details such as easy access, proximity to a shower or changing room, and sufficient storage space for towels and accessories.

USSPA Tip

If space and technical conditions allow, install your swim spa outdoors – the experience of swimming under a starry sky or, perhaps, amidst snowdrifts will enhance the overall sense of relaxation. Also consider the spa’s orientation in relation to your house and garden, as the right location will ensure privacy, a pleasant view and maximum relaxation. Whilst a hot tub deserves a quieter, more intimate spot, we recommend placing a year-round swim spa where the action is – near the terrace, or anywhere else where family life takes place.

03

Is it better to install a swim spa above ground or in-ground?

Freestanding all-season swim spa

The ideal choice for plots where excavation isn’t possible, sloping terrain or city flats with a terrace. It allows you to enjoy views of the countryside, greenery, sunsets or even the city skyline. When making your selection, consider which direction you want to look out from the swim spa, and tailor your choice of model and spatial requirements accordingly. During installation, it is then essential to take into account the terrace’s load-bearing capacity as well as access to electricity and water.

USSPA Tip

Thanks to the option of above-ground installation of a swim spa in an enclosure, you can enjoy swimming even in places where it would not normally be possible to install a pool, such as on a terrace or on sloping ground.

In-ground or semi-in-ground installation

In the case of a swim spa, in-ground installation is the most common option, particularly given its depth. This solution looks elegant and is appreciated not only by architects but also by anyone seeking a clean design without visual distractions. A swim spa design featuring internal moulded steps is ideal for in-ground installation. Although the installation requires some preparatory building work, the result is an aesthetically perfect and functionally well-thought-out solution. Another interesting option is partial in-ground installation, which works extremely well on sloping terrain.

USSPA Tip

When installing a swim spa so that the water level is flush with the surrounding ground, it is more important than ever to prioritise safety. USSPA thermal covers completely prevent children and pets from falling into the water, so you don’t have to be constantly on your guard and can place your swim spa right on your patio. We offer thermal covers with a choice of lifting mechanisms, as well as a wide range of elegant fabrics with a durable Teflon coating or in a faux leather finish – each with a clean, minimalist design to complement the overall look of your installation.

04

Is it better to install a swim spa indoors or outdoors?

Outdoor installations

Experience the magic of swimming under the open sky. An outdoor swim spa offers a unique experience in every season. Think of shelter, privacy and easy access – you’ll particularly appreciate having a swim spa close to home in winter. We also recommend an outdoor shower for maximum comfort before and after your swim.

Indoor installation

It offers complete privacy and comfort for everyday use. The swim spa becomes the centrepiece of your home – with a view of your favourite painting, the fireplace or the countryside outside the window. An indoor swim spa, suitable for year-round use, can be perfectly complemented by other wellness features, such as a sauna, a home gym or a relaxation area.

05

How do we choose the right swim spa model for us?

The best way to choose a swim spa is through personal experience – just as you’d arrange a test drive before buying a car, we recommend trying out the spa beforehand. This is the only way to find out whether the massage jets, ergonomics and size suit you, and whether you feel comfortable during hydrotherapy. Don’t limit your options right from the start – a swim spa will serve you for decades, and the difference in running costs between a smaller and a larger model is minimal.

As well as the size of the swim spa, it’s important to consider how it will fit into your home. A year-round swim spa should not only be functional but also blend harmoniously with the surroundings in which you’ll be using it. The design, colour scheme of the shell, control panel or thermal cover, and accessories influence not only the appearance but also the overall sense of relaxation. And it is precisely these details – from the easy-to-use thermal cover, through the lighting, to the aromatherapy – that should therefore play a key role in deciding which supplier to choose for your swim spa.

Tip from USSPA

06

How do you choose a swim spa supplier?

When choosing a year-round swim spa, it’s not just the product itself that matters, but also who you buy it from. A swim spa will serve you for decades, so pay particular attention to your choice of supplier. The right supplier will not only provide you with a high-quality swim spa, but also long-term and reliable warranty and post-warranty service and support throughout the equipment’s lifetime. If you choose a direct manufacturer, you gain a partner with comprehensive know-how about their product.
