Should you winterise your hot tub or not?

USSPA Noel – hot tub with clean lines, spiral massage jets and soft LED glow in a winter setting.

Imagine sinking into the pleasantly warm water of your hot tub and letting the massage jets work their magic on your muscles. You feel yourself relax, and a lovely sensation of warmth spreads throughout your body. Don’t miss out on these blissful moments by draining and winterising your hot tub! The colder months are, in fact, perfect for spa baths!

Relaxing in the pleasantly warm water of a hot tub, combined with the cool surrounding air, is not just about that blissful feeling. It brings proven benefits for our bodies. The contrast between the warm water and the cool air strengthens the body’s overall resistance, and not just against autumn colds. The massage jets relax muscles and joints, and also promote the production of ‘happiness hormones’ – endorphins. A hot tub is therefore the ideal tool for combating the gloomy moods we often face during autumn and winter.

Winterising doesn’t suit hot tubs

Many people mistakenly believe that a hot tub needs to be drained and ‘winterised’ in the same way as, for example, a traditional swimming pool. In fact, the opposite is true – a spa is designed for efficient operation all year round. At USSPA, we design our hot tubs to provide you with maximum relaxation all year round, even during the cold winter months. A comprehensive insulation system, which works much like a thermos flask, keeps the water warm for longer and significantly reduces the spa’s energy consumption. A key feature is the thermal cover, which not only protects the water from contamination but also prevents evaporation and heat loss. This means you can enjoy relaxing soaks even in winter, without worrying about high running costs.

Do not drain the hot tub

Hot tubs are designed to be kept filled with water at all times. Therefore, if for any reason you decide not to use your hot tub during the winter, you must not drain it. Draining the spa exposes it to the risk of damage, such as accelerated ageing of components, the development of leaks or corrosion of metal parts. Furthermore, this may result in unnecessary service costs when the spa is put back into operation.

Have you decided not to use your spa for a while?

USSPA hot tubs are equipped with an Energy-Saving Mode for those situations where you do not want to or cannot use your hot tub for an extended period; you can simply activate this feature via the mobile app from anywhere. Your spa will then take care of everything automatically. It will lower the water temperature and optimise its operation whilst not in use.
