What are cookies and what are they used for?

Cookies are text files that store selected information for a limited period of time. When you first visit a website, your browser automatically downloads these files and stores them on your device (mobile phone, tablet, computer). A cookie consists of at least two components: the name and the value of the file. It usually also contains the date on which it will be automatically deleted (this is set according to the file’s planned lifespan).
